Subspecies
There is a direct to video horror/fantasy movie producing company named Full Moon Pictures. They have created numerous hits such as the Puppetmasters, the Trancer sequels, Demonic Toys and other equally entertaining titles, but the Subspecies films have become one of the most in depth vampire chronicles in film history.
Our first episode opens with King Vladislas (played by Phantasm's Angus Scrimm). For centuries the king has resided as a vampire in the castle Vladislav in Bucurest. In the past his family of vampires thwarted a Turkish invasion on Translvania. In gratitude, Translvanian residents went to Rome to steal a sacred stone said to drip the blood of the saints. This bloodstone was given to the king and has been the key to peace between the living and the vampires. The endless supply of blood that the stone offers the undead meant that the vampires would no longer have to prey on humans. This has been the case, until now.
The king has two sons, the noble Stefan and the monsterous Radu (played by Anders Hove). Radu swore to never stop hunting humans for blood and was exhiled by the king. When Radu comes back to claim the bloodstone as his birthright his father refuses the gift. With the aide of a hellish subspecies that Radu has created he kills the king and takes the bloodstone. When Stefan hears of this treachery he vows to destroy his brother and save the relationship between vampire and man. Soon after these events a few American students come to Translvania to study the lore of vampirism. They end up getting more than they bargain for. Radu vengefully mingles his blood with theirs and creates a new batch of hungry vampires. Our leading lady, Michelle becomes infected by the vampire disease and turns to Stefan for help, hoping that he can make sure she becomes a noble vampire instead of a monster like Radu. It's a battle between brothers that pits good against evil. Will Stefan win and keep his family at peace with the towns folk? Or will Radu slaughter the last of his bloodline and start a new empire of bloodthirsty killers?

Subspecies II: Bloodstone
When one watches the end of the first subspecies it's hard to not expect this wonderful sequel. Writer/Director Ted Nicoleau returns to bring us an extension to the vampire lore. After being beheaded and thought for dead, Radu gains back existence with the help of his subspecies. The climax of the first film takes a drastic turn as Radu wakes before Stefan and Michelle. He dispatches Stefan and then turns to Michelle. She is saved by the sun's rays and flees the next night, stealing the bloodstone from Stefan's putrified corpse.
Michelle is immediately persued by Radu. Not knowing exactly what is happening to her she becomes very frightened and calls her sister Rebecca overseas, begging for help. Rebecca flys to Bucarest and meets up with Lieutenant Merin and United States ambassador assistant Mel Thompson. They tell her a bizarre tale of her sister being found seemingly dead in her hotel room. When her body was enroute to the morgue she regained conciousness and fled. With the help of a local historian, Rebecca will try to solve the Vladislav puzzle and save her sister from her fate.
Radu visits his ancient mother who was entombed alive. With her help he will capture Michelle who he desires greatly to be his fledgling. He will try to teach her the ways of being a vampire, how to hunt and move with stealth. The historian Popescu reveals to Rebecca the story of the Vladislav family and that her sister has now become Radu's deciple. The climax comes when Rebecca and Popescu attempt a daring rescue during the daylight. Will she save her sister from eternal damnation?
