The Amityville Horror began in the town of Amityville, on the eve of November 13th, 1974, at about 3:15 a.m. A twenty-three year old man named Ronald Defeo killed his mother, father, two sisters and two brothers with a high powered rifle. They were all shot in their beds. When he was arrested Ronald claimed that demonic voices told him to kill his family. The following summer the house was sold to George and Kathy Lutz. That December the Lutz's and their three children moved into 112 Ocean Dr. Their stay was short however, as they claimed that ghosts and maybe even the devil himself drove them from their home. Driven so far that they left behind all of their possessions and never returned.
This story lead to a nationwide resurrgence in interest of the occult. The following films, especially the first two, were based on the tragic Defeo case and the wild tale of supernatural phenomenom that the Lutz's supposedly endured while residing therafter. They represent what actually happened if both Defeo's and the Lutz's stories were true...

The Amityville Horror
The Amityville Horror is a movie about George and Kathy Lutz, their three children and the horrific events that befell them in their home. A tale of evil spirits corrupting the house and those who reside within it's walls.
This film had a good shock value because it boasted to be based on a true story. By the time the movie came out, it seemed the whole world knew about the said house's past. It intensified the notion that the supernatural did exist. It quickly became a haunted house classic.
Our unfortunate family is headed by James Brolin and Margot Kidder playing George and Kathy Lutz. Together, with their family, they encounter a force that doesn't welcome them (not to mention it tells them to get out!!). We encounter walls that bleed and invisible entities that make their lives Hell. Things continue to grow all the more sour until the family is forced to flee from the cursed house of Amityville . This film is a favourite amongst haunted house fans.

Amityville II: The Possession
Amityville II is more a prequel than a sequel. Again it focuses on events that reportedly occured within the house at 112 Ocean Dr. We are introduced to the house's original tragedy, the murders of the Defeo family (Defeo not being the name used in the film).
We begin with the arrival of the new residents, a family of six. After moving in their less than perfect relations become even more troubled. Unseen forces begin to terrorize the house, sometimes causing damage and leaving the children to blame. It seems that the eldest child, Sonny, doesn't get along too well with his father, a very mean spirited and demanding patriarch. The evil feeds on his feelings of anger, eventually gaining enough strength to influence Sonny. From here Sonny begins to degenerate. Driven by the evil to commit blasphemous incenst, desecration and eventually, murder.
After killing his entire family a local priest, Father Odobsky investigates the phenomenon and realizes that Sonny is just as much a victim as his family. Possessed by evil forces, he is a pawn to the spirits of the cursed Amityville house. After a face to face dialogue with the evil itself, our hero priest defies the church and proceeds to exorcise the demons from Sonny. After a failed attempt Sonny escapes and Odobsky is forced to chase the possessed child back to Amityville and finish what he began in the bowels of the hell-house. Will the glory of God conquer the evil of Amityville? Rent it and see!!

Amityville III: The Demon
Our favourite haunted house returns to give us a definitive ending to the cursed Amityville house. This time the house already has a well known past and is being used by a fraudulent psychic. An reporter named Baxtor (played by Tony Roberts) sets up a meeting with this so-called psychic and uncovers the fraud publicly. After this he buys the house from the realtor and has a real paranormal team to check the house out after his dead daughter is seen walking through the house.
From here people begin to mysteriously get maimed or killed while in or around the house. Countless warnings are given to the new owner but he heeds them not. The powers intensify as a well in the basement (that leads to God knows where) is discovered. When they attempt to exorcise the evil spirit it becomes uncontrollably violent and starts killing all of those in the house. The climax comes when the evil manifests itself and dishes out more supernatural vengence than the previous movies. We get to see how the enraged spirit self destructs the house in a pyrotechnic delight. it's not the best in the series but its definately worth a watch or two.
